Sports Transformation a Tragedy

Sports Transformation a Tragedy

Since 2007, I have approached the Education System, every Minister of Sport, except for “Mr Fixit”, and the latest Minister. I have approached the South African Rugby Union, the South African Cricket Union, with my pleas, and their system dictate that they believe is utopia, carries their continued system development.

The following document is a Oct 2007, “Grey-paper” that I published and distributed, I include as part of my defence, should the Human Rights Commission wish to prosecute me?

(Newly edited extract from Cedric de la Harpe “grey paper” submitted Oct 2007 and originally published on http://economic-freedom-charter.co.za)

Has South Africa successfully transformed our sporting codes?

No, instead, all in the interest of continued Economic Segregation, our sports, have become the profit domain of the New Democracy Bourgeois.

We should not blame the Bourgeois entirely, during the period 1984 to 1994, the Township and Village sports disappeared, thanks to the violent conflict that the Townships suffered, and the closure of the schools.

The sport development in the Townships through to 1984, produced the South Africa soccer winners, the 1996 team, athletics and boxing during this period, many world top participants.

By 1994, all world sports were moving into the ‘professional era’, where the Bourgeois competed for the wealth that had started flowing.

In Rugby and Cricket, for those of us who remember the strength of amateur club rugby and cricket, this form of participation has disappeared, the remnants of amateur club rugby is celebrated as part of the Varsity Club, a business interest that is part of the talent pool.

Given the fact that amateur sport had disappeared in the Townships and Rural areas, with the amateur sport disappearing in the suburbs, could we ever expect sport to return to the Townships.

On the sub-menu, you will find a link to Mrs. Zanele Mbeki’s article where she analyses the different needs of the Bourgeois society and the socialist / worker society, well worth a read.

Since watching a sports movie in September 2007, “Glory Road”, I promoted the concept that we should scrap all sports quota’s in our country, it only provides for small percentage of development to ‘window dress’ what the elite Bourgeois society are stripping from the economics of our sports. See Scrap All Sports Codes.

Thomas Piketty’s ‘economics of inequality’ describes the South African Sports codes today. Following 120 years of Economic Segregation, the South African Bourgeois do not wish to have any of their sporting wealth shared, by those disadvantaged through what I call the Black Holocaust, rather, we all adopt the preferred, alternate policy, where we retain the wealth, and seek to keep the poverty group fed.

In 1994 we should have followed sports structures in third world countries, where all children hit the cricket ball, or kick the soccer ball, even though it needed us to reduce the inequalities at the expense of the Bourgeois. By 2015, we would have had many, top representative teams.

INSTEAD:

We have spend many millions on sports development, versus the number of disadvantaged children, developed.

How many children complete their development annually, a spread-sheet reflecting the Rands spent on development versus these numbers successfully developed, will make interesting reading.

More importantly, what percentages of this development money has been spent on Administration, Salaries, Bonuses, 5 Star Accommodation, First-Class Air Travel?

If I was the Minister of Sport, I would remove all this development money from the Sporting Bodies, and spend it on taking sport into the Township and Rural schools.

But then, I am not Bourgeois, (in my thinking).
